We often seek to restore a sense of power to those we work with. In this intensive, we will review a model for understanding trauma and its effects as occurring upon a continuum of internalized, relational, and systemic harm. We will also review current process and performance oriented approaches within and related to Drama Therapy including practices drawn from the Theatre of the Oppressed, Playback Theatre, and Developmental Transformations that attempt to address trauma and work towards the change that our individual clients, families, groups, and communities seek.

Nous cherchons souvent à restaurer un sens de pouvoir chez ceux et celles avec qui nous travaillons, que ce soit de nature interne, relationnel ou systémique. Dans cet intensif, nous examinerons un modèle afin de comprendre le trauma et ses effets ayant lieu sur un continuum de dommages intériorisés, relationnels et systémiques. En outre, nous examinerons un processus et des approches actuelles orientées vers la performance, au sein de, et en lien avec la Thérapie par l‘art dramatique, qui tentent d‘aborder le trauma et de travailler vers le changement que nos clients individuels, familles, groupes et communautés recherchent.

Theatre as Call and Response: Playback for HAITI 02/07/10

The Living Histories Theatre Ensemble of the Montreal Life Stories project will be holding a special Playback Theatre performance in response to the displacement created by the recent earthquake in Haiti. 

Please join us to bear witness to each other's experiences of relating, responding, and reviving hope. We invite stories connected with this experience which might include (but are certainly not limited to) stories about the loss and creation of 'home', the political economy of international aid, or the big picture of Haitian-Canadian relations. 

Playback Theater is a performative approach to community conversations. The purpose of Playback Theater is to draw people closer through witnessing the spontaneous enactment of stories shared by audience members. You may have a story to tell or you may want to come to listen and watch.

L'Ensemble théâtral des histoires en vie du projet des histoires de vie montréalaise va tenir une représentation de <<Playback Theatre>> spéciale en conséquence des problèmes créés par le récent tremblement de terre en Haïti.

Rejoignez-nous pour qu'on partage chacun nos expériences en ce qui concerne comment cet événement nous à affecter et nos
actions qui ont suivies cette tragédie, jusqu'aux histoires liées à cette expérience. Cela peut inclure (mais pas nécessairement limité à cela) des histoires de perte et de re/création de la « vie de maison», la politique économique de l'aide internationale, ou une vue générale des relations Haïtiano-Canadiennes .

Le <<Playback Theatre>> est une approche performative aux conversations communautaires. Son but est de rapprocher les gens en les faisant être témoin d'une représentation des histoires partagéespar les membres du public. Vous pouvez avoir une histoire à raconter
ou vous voulez juste venir nous écouter et nous regarder.

Where Are You From? A loaded question for millions of Canadians. One that leads to even more questions: does having a clear answer make life easier? What is 'home' exactly? And where do you lay down your hat when you're a citizen of the world? We explore these questions (and others) through various theatre forms. Drawing on Developmental Transformations and Playback Theater, Nisha Sajnani immerses our players in their own quirky quest for the motherland.
